It all started with an ashtray.
A traditional ashtray from Michoacán —a devil eating a watermelon— sat on the bar at my parents’ house in Guadalajara. My brother took the name from it for the little hotel my mom and I opened in Oaxaca: El Diablo y la Sandía.
Ten years later, with my partner Sten’s help, El Diablo y la Luna came along. It isn’t just a boutique hotel: it’s my soul in stone and sunlight. A place where design meets emotion and art lives in the details.

Frequently asked questions
With a one-night deposit. Pay by wire transfer (US or Mexican account), Wise, or a secure card link we send you. The balance is paid at the house.
Yes. Pay your balance in cash at the house and save 15% (20% for the entire house). The deposit is charged at the regular rate.
Two nights. Check-in from 3:00 PM, check-out by 12:00 PM.
At no cost up to 25 days before arrival. Within 25 days, the deposit is non-refundable.
Yes, all of them. Some also have a private patio or terrace.
Oaxaca’s climate is mild; rooms are designed for natural ventilation and have fans. We’re adding AC to some rooms — ask us if it matters to you.
Children are welcome (extra charge over age 6). No pets, with our apologies.
Yes. It’s one of Mexico’s most welcoming destinations. As in any city, common-sense precautions are all you need.
